From Saturday coffee to 21 kilometres
Adjoa Ofori joined for the social. Eighteen months later she has a half-marathon medal and a spot on the start line in Lagos.

Adjoa is candid about why she joined: she had moved back to Accra from London, knew almost nobody, and a friend promised her the Saturday run ended with good coffee and better conversation.
She walked parts of her first 5K. The captain walked with her. Within a season she was running the whole loop, then the Thursday City 7K, then — somewhat to her own alarm — signing up for a half marathon.
I came for the people. The fitness was a side effect.
She finished in 1:58:40, then went straight to brunch with eleven club members. "The fitness was a side effect," she says. "I came for the people and I stayed for the people. The medal is a nice bonus."
