Every Friday afternoon, Nii walks into one of six Jamestown and Ussher Town schools with a bag of cones and a clipboard. By the time he leaves, sixty children have run relays, done their first timed mile and argued loudly about who won.
The programme is funded by the Active Accra Youth Fund — ten per cent of every race entry, plus the whole of Run for Jamestown each November. Last year it paid for 340 pairs of running shoes and two part-time coaches.
Sport is the easiest way I know to make a young person feel seen.
"These kids have more talent than they have access," Nii says. "We are not trying to find the next Olympian. We are trying to make sure every child here knows what it feels like to belong to a team."
